Imagine coming into your work space and greeted by heaps of files, papers strewn at odd angles on a very disorganised desk, there goes my enthusiasm and motivation for the day. I can practically feel my mood nose dive. it usually takes a while to get my ‘mojo’ back after having to deal with all that clutter.

How productive we are at work most times is affected by our work spaces.

1/3 of our lives is spent at the work place. Nigerians are working harder and faster than ever, yet, productivity is something that employers don't seem to see.

A well-organised work-space can drastically improve employee performance, satisfaction and well-being. An organised work space without much clutter allows employees focus on their tasks with an upbeat attitude. It is also a known fact that great energy can be created by an attractive and comfortable physical environment.

These are some basic elements that can drastically change the ambience of your workplace:

Colours - Colours covey emotions, colour boards are the new rave in branding and advertising. Brands are conscious of the colour psychology and how they can use this to elicit certain emotions from their consumers.

Some colours that will do great in your office space are yellow, pink and lilac these colours evoke feelings of warmth, excitement and enthusiasm. Blue is a colour that speaks of calm and stability. Colours for a fact affects your mood and productivity

Sunlight - Have you noticed how your mood lifts when the blinds are opened? A research showed that ‘there is a strong relationship between workplace daylight exposure and office workers’ sleep, activity and quality of life. Letting in natural light into your office space especially on a bright sunny day is a good way to keep your energy up. The more you let in the sun the better your quality of life.

I want to share some simple tricks and hacks that can help keep your workstation and office environment more pleasant to the eye and will unleash your productivity.

    1. Trash any documents you no longer need, there is no need in having papers that are not important loitering about.

    2. Your stick it notes pertaining to completed tasks should be thrown away or better still have a note pad where important information can be taken down

    3. Your documents should be filed properly using folders or file jackets to identify them

    4. Keep frequently used items nearby.

    5. Give everything a home and return them when not being used.

Work spaces that are more organised and pleasant to the eyes make work more enjoyable.
